Mick Townshend’s journey from carpentry apprentice to successful entrepreneur, owner and Managing Director of TWSA Group, is a compelling tale of vision and dedication. After starting his career with an apprenticeship in Carpentry & Joinery and gaining experience working at John Dearman’s hardware store in St. Albans, Mick identified a niche in the market for a local specialized door supply and installation service.
He launched “Er in Doors” from Beech Road, St. Albans, focusing on internal and external doors and ironmongery. The success of the initial venture led to a rebranding as “The Door Gallery” and a move to larger premises, still within St. Albans.
In 2012, Mick transitioned from “The Door Gallery” to TWSA Group Ltd from his roots at Beech Road, and in April 2013, Timber Windows of St. Albans was established, part of the national Timber Windows Group, established in the UK in 2004. The St. Albans showroom was the 26th to open in the UK. The positive reception of the St. Albans showroom paved the way for Mick’s further expansion, leading to the opening of Timber Windows of Olney in 2015 and Timber Windows of Amersham in 2016.
The growth of the TWSA Group business necessitated the development of a Distribution Centre in Redbourn, strategically located for efficient access to major roads including the M1 and M25. This centre supports all of TWSA Group business operations by managing inventory, centralising supplier deliveries, and enabling his team of installers collect new items for client orders and handling the removal of old ones.
Mick’s strategic moves and commitment to quality have clearly paid off, allowing TWSA Group to thrive and expand across the region.
We are delighted to announce for 2025 that as part of the continued growth of the company, on the 2nd January 2025 TWSA Group will be opening two new branches, Timber Windows of Ruislip and Timber Windows of Enfield as well as reopening Timber Windows of Amersham following extensive redevelopment works.
TWSA Group has also expanded the range of products offered to clients by adding Evolution Windows & Doors and Aluco Aluminium Architectural Glazing Systems to their portfolio – these products are available to been seen at selected branches within the Group.

TAILOR-MADE
Unlike most of our competitors, every door & window we manufacture is constructed especially for you to your individual requirements. All of our joinery is supplied factory finished & factory glazed including all the necessary draught proofing & ironmongery. Doors are supplied assembled ready for installation complete with frames as a doorset, with or without sidelights or attached flag windows. Panels, rails & glazing bars are available on all of our joinery products to create the perfect design. As our doors & windows are made to order, please allow approximately 8 to 10 weeks for delivery from final sign off of order. Naturally these estimated delivery dates can fluctuate during busy periods & will be updated within your quotation.
Within your showroom experience you will be shown the different multipoint locking options, traditional hinge types, draught proofing, glass options & our extensive range of ironmongery including Samuel Heath. We will also show you the paint & stain options available including RAL colours, Fired Earth & Farrow & Ball. Different paint & stain options are available to the inside & outside if required.

FITTING SERVICE
A one stop experience installing the best timber windows & doors in the country by our experienced & fully trained engineers. Our fitting service not only includes the on-site installation, but also includes a full survey prior to manufacture. Naturally our installation service will include both the removal & disposal of the existing windows & doors & where possible recycled. Where applicable, our installation will be supported with a FENSA certificate.
